HOUSTON –- High winds caused a fire to jump from one home to another in southwest Houston early Monday.
It was reported on Bintliff Drive at Bellaire Boulevard before 5 a.m.
According to the Houston Fire Department, a couple’s homes went up in flames and was quickly destroyed. Winds caused the fire to spread to a second home where five people were staying.
No serious injuries were reported, but a man in the first home was sent to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The first home was destroyed while the second home suffered heavy roof damage.
The Red Cross was called in to help relocate family members, one of whom is recovering from open heart surgery.
There was no early word on what may have caused the blaze.
