HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- A family lost their home and two dogs in a house fire in northeast Harris County early Thursday morning.
The fire was reported at about 2 a.m. on Hollybrook Lane.
Several fire departments responded to the blaze, which destroyed the family's single-story home.
A homeowner tells KHOU 11 he was watching TV when he smelled the smoke. He woke his wife and battled smoke to rescue their 16-year-old nephew.
The family made it out safe but not before the nephew suffered smoke inhalation. The fire also killed two of the family's dogs.
Firefighters say gusty winds made it difficult to battle the blaze. It spread from the family's home to a neighbor's home, damaging it as well.
The Harris County Fire Marshal is investigating what started the fire.
