SAN JACINTO COUNTY, Texas—Two people are dead after a major collision Saturday that blocked all lanes of Highway 59 south of Shepherd.

The accident happened around 12 p.m. on Highway 59 near Route 424.

Police said a truck carrying heavy equipment was attempting to clear a bridge when a piece of the equipment struck an overpass, was knocked off, and landed on a car.

A tanker truck carrying oil then hit the first two vehicles, spilling an estimated 50 barrels of oil.

Two people died in the accident, while one was sent to the hospital and another managed to walk away.

Police had to shut down north and southbound lanes in order to clean up the mess.
