HOUSTON –- A resident says his two cats were killed when his condo caught fire late Thursday.

The fire broke out shortly after 8 p.m. on Memorial Mews at Turkey Creek Drive.

Houston firefighters arrived at a condominium complex to find a second-floor unit fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to other units, but everything inside was destroyed.

The unit below the fire suffered heavy water damage.

The resident was home at the time and managed to make a safe escape, but his cats were later found dead inside.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
