HOUSTON – Two brothers who are charged with capital murder in connection with the stabbing death of a Pasadena father surrendered Thursday evening, The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.
Marcelino and Richard Osuna are accused of assisting Veronica Muniz in the killing of 41-year-old Jesus Leal Valdez. On Jan. 11, Harris County investigators found Valdez’s body buried two feet under a chicken coop near a home in the 5200 block of Mohawk Street.
Valdez’s family had reported him missing on Dec. 31. The father of three disappeared on New Year’s Eve after leaving out to show a woman the truck he was selling.
Investigators said Muniz, 27, was captured on surveillance cameras at several locations using Valdez’s debit card.
Prosecutors say Muniz admitted that she called Valdez from her cell phone and asked to meet him for the sale of a car, knowing that was not the true purpose. After the pair met, Valdez was beaten, stabbed to death and robbed of $300. Then he was buried and his vehicle was cut into pieces with a blow torch.
Muniz was arrested Wednesday after a 2.5 hour SWAT standoff at an apartment complex in Texas City. Police said another suspect who was in the apartment, 29-year-old Steven Amado Osuna, hanged himself inside a closet.
The Osuna brothers and Muniz were booked into the Harris County jail on capital murder charges. No bond has been set.
