HOUSTON – Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire that destroyed several townhomes early Sunday in west Houston.
According to the Houston Fire Department, firefighters were called at 2 a.m. to a fire on Winrock Boulevard near Westheimer Road. When HFD arrived at the Briarwest Townhomes, they found a building full engulfed in flames.
Residents were able to evacuate without injuries as their apartment homes burned, HFD said. Firefighters initially tried to check inside, but the flames were too heavy.
A second alarm was pulled and fire crews had to fight the fire from outside, HFD said. Two ladder trucks doused the flames from above, while several crews fought with hoses in the front and back of the property.
No firefighters were injured battling the blaze, but six apartment units were destroyed.
