HOUSTON-- A Harris County deputy was arrested at his own wedding reception over the weekend.
It happened on Saturday at the SPJST lodge located at 1435 Beall in Northwest Houston. More than 250 people were there celebrating with groom Kevin Meyer and his new bride Raquel.
"They are devastated," said Meyer's attorney Jed Silverman. "It was their wedding and and her husband got arrested."
Harris County Precinct 1 Constables were working security at the event and were asked by lodge officials to shut it down when things got out of hand.
According to constables, Meyer's dad pushed one of the constables and ended up being detained.
Meyer and Christopher Lock, also a Harris County deputy, got involved at that point.
Lock was asked arrested for criminal trespassing after reportedly refusing to leave. He is on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
Meyer was arrested and charged with interfering with the duties of a public servant. His duty at work hasn't changed.
"Probably the worst thing about this situation is that it's a huge letdown to my client on his wedding day," said Silverman. "He didn't violate any of the laws of the state of Texas."
Silverman claims the constable was being abusive and there is some question about whether one of the constables involved was in uniform or not.
Both deputies are expected in court on Friday.
