HOUSTON -- A teen accused of breaking into a north Harris County home late Wednesday was sent to the hospital in stable condition after a homeowner opened fire, deputies said.
The break-in and subsequent shooting happened in the 1500 block of Silver Bell Drive near Kathi Ann Lane around 8:45 p.m., according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the 19-year-old suspect, Cecilio Semis, Jr., broke through a back window in an apparent attempt to burglarize the home.
Inside, deputies said homeowner Travis McNeal was sound asleep when he heard noises. McNeal grabbed his gun and walked to the top of the stairs. Deputies said that's when McNeal started shooting.
KHOU 11 News spoke to the suspect’s father on Thursday. Cecilio Semis could barely hold it together while talking about his son being shot.
Semis said he was not allowed to see his son at Ben Taub Hospital because he’s in police custody. Semis Jr. is listed in stable condition.
The suspect’s father said his son has been giving him a hard time.
"He don't like to study,” said Semis. “I don't know what happened to him.”
Semis brought his two sons over from Panama a few years ago to give them a better life.
"2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, same grade, 9th grade," said Semis.
Now Semis is heartbroken.
"I feel bad right now, and a little bit good, he's okay." said Semis.
Semis, Jr. is facing burglary charges.
