HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Harris County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the shooting of a teen girl outside a northwest side apartment complex late Tuesday.
It was reported around 11:30 p.m. at Legacy Champion Forest on FM 1960 near Torrey Chase.
Deputies said a 16-year-old girl was in the back of a Honda Accord with an 18-year-old male in the front driver’s seat. They told investigators a man walked up, so the driver put the vehicle in reverse to leave. That’s when the man pulled out a gun and opened fire.
“We just heard gunshots fired. We were lying in bed,” a neighbor, Nikki, said.
The vehicle was struck several times, and one of the bullets went through the door and hit the girl in her leg. They drove around to the other side of the apartments and called 911. The suspect fled on foot, deputies said.
The girl was sent to the hospital in stable condition.
The incident surprised residents and left many terrified.
“I was shocked!” said Kenny Pham, neighbor.
“Wow! Oh my God! You’re not safe anywhere. You think that you’re safe, but you never know,” Nikki, said.“The thing about it is that you can’t control what goes on, you know, because things happen all over the place.”
Deputies are hoping that surveillance cameras captured images.
“Right now we’re just looking for a white male, approximately 20 to 25 years of age, wearing some unknown color of hoodie, and some type of semi-automatic weapon,” said Sgt. Hilborn. “We weren’t given any other descriptions.”
