HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating after a 13-year-old boy was shot in the head at an apartment complex in northwest Houston Sunday night.

Police said the teen was visiting friends at a complex in the 7200 block of T.C. Jester near Little York when two other teens began to fight.

Someone handed one of the teens a pistol and bullets began to fly. The 13-year-old, an innocent bystander, was shot. He was hospitalized in critical condition.

“Everybody is devastated, we’re trying to see if he is going to make it or not,” said Erica McFarland, a witness.

Witnesses said the victim who was hit didn’t live in the complex, but would come over often to play basketball with friends.

“He’s a nice kid, he’s a good kid...he don’t hurt nobody or nothing like that,” said Jeremiah Ned, who lives in the apartment complex.

Ned said he had borrowed the victim’s bicycle, just moments before the incident, to make a run to a nearby store.

“I heard shots  I was like hurrying up to make it back to the apartments, by the time I made it back, he was laying on the ground here, he was really shot,” Ned said.

The shooter fled the scene and remains on the loose.
