Hm, finger-liking? C'mon KHOU... "finger licking" is more like it. Anyway, Rudy's BBQ is pretty awesome (their sauce is great, and you can purchase in jars). Also good is Goode Company BBQ!

McKenzies BBQ in Conroe, hands down has the best ribs I ever had in my life, does not compare to the Luling's or Louie Mullers.

Vernon's in Conroe - Hwy 105W heading to the lake. Awesome Ribs!

urbansissy said on November 6, 2009 at 2:44 PM

McKenzie's BBQ has locations in Huntsville and Conroe and most definitely has great BBQ! Locally, I would have to say Hickory Hollow on Heights or Rudy's on 290 has the best BBQ.

aroebuck said on November 6, 2009 at 3:12 PM

Best BBQ...there are certainly some tough choices. * Kings BBQ in La Porte * Joe's BBQ in Alvin * Central Texas in Pearland All make the cut in my book.

prestonv said on November 6, 2009 at 3:15 PM

I agree with #1. Definately Joe's Barbeque in Alvin, TX

prestonv said on November 6, 2009 at 3:16 PM

No one has mentioned the Swinging Door near Richmond.

socrates1911 said on November 6, 2009 at 3:23 PM

Thelma's BBQ locate at Southmore and Scott Street, formerly at 1020 Live Oak Street...By Far the best BBQ for the $$$...the Brisket is the best in Houston. HOWEVER if I lived in Houston (Pearland, TX) and had a restaurant then I would say my brisket is BEST but I digress...MY personal favorites at Thelma's are the Brisket and Ribs, and the Sweet TEA is straight up addicting... I also have to show some love for Burn's BBQ off Depriest. Although Burn's may not be what it was, that BBQ shack still has a loyal lunch crowd following...the sauce mixed with sausage juice aka "Gravy" is the best. Small ends ribs and sausage trays are a couple of my personal favorites.

khoudude said on November 6, 2009 at 3:37 PM

"Hey Vicente!, Look me up when Thelma's win this survey (She will win). and I'll be MORE than glad to help you out sampling the ribs!

Luling City Market on Richmond @ 610. Sauce can not be beat.

Demeris B-B-Q

caringprsn said on November 6, 2009 at 5:01 PM

Oh wow-when I heard this morning that ya'll were doing the best BBQ this morning--the very first one that came to mind is Central Texas Bar-B-Q in Pearland ON 518 off 35 ( just over the railroad tracks. Oh they are fabulous . The 2nd one that is almost as good ( but not in my #1 spot) is Joe's BBQ on Hwy 6 in Alvin. My neighbor does not have a computer & she asked me to put Gabby's on 45 down for her, as her vote for the best.

kduke004 said on November 6, 2009 at 6:07 PM

Joe's BBQ in Alvin is one of the best!....My wife could not stand BBQ, but after she tried Joes then her mind changed. If you have not eaten there, you are missing out!

srfrgrl said on November 6, 2009 at 6:18 PM

Goode's BBQ on Kirby. I've been eating there since I was a kid. Love the brisket (get the juicy top side, not the lean) and the jalapeno Czech sausage. The potato salad, jambalaya rice and pecan pie are the bomb!!!

davidinhouston said on November 6, 2009 at 6:44 PM

I think I've eaten at every BBQ place in Houston (at least all of those listed here). The best I've found (according to my taste buds) is Burns' Bar-B-Que located at 8307 1/2 DePriest. Their website states that they've been voted No.1 by Citysearch, AOL, Recognized on The Food Network Channel, Fox 26 and received several commendations from the Houston Chronicle, Houston Press and major magazines and publications. Their beans are positively the best anywhere.

Triple J's @ 6715 Homestead Rd.

hardluckwife said on November 6, 2009 at 9:39 PM

The BBQ Hut in Magnolia by far has the best! The baked potatoes alone can feed 2 & the banana pudding is to die for!

vaquero said on November 6, 2009 at 9:52 PM

Goode's on Kirby is very good, but the new one just off 249 north of 1960 is the best in town. Try the spicy pork. It doesn't get any better than this!

raymon said on November 6, 2009 at 10:07 PM

The Swinging Door near Fulshear has them all beat! Goode's has some pretty good bbq though! Since Pappa's took over the Luthers bbq stores, it has been down hill since!

Central Texas BBQ in Pearland on FM 518...without a doubt the BEST BBQ

caringprsn said on November 7, 2009 at 12:59 AM

Another reader mentioned The Swinging Door ( in fact -read 2 postings) . I forgot to list them......When my husband & I lived in Sugar Land, before he passed.......we loved going there. Had them cater our Rehearsal Dinner many many yrs. ago!!! So, yes, they get my vote But now that I had to move to Alvin, after my husband passed, I still vote for Central Texas BBQ in Pearland on 518 off 35 and then Joe's BBQ on Hwy 6 in Alvin. Sounds like alot of wonderful ones have been mentioned. KHOU will enjoy going to sample on this one.

genedonahue said on November 7, 2009 at 5:36 AM

Thelma's BBQ on Southmore has the best fall-off-the-bone pork ribs in town and the best brisket. Second best brisket is Pappas BBQ on either 59 South at Bellaire or on Bissonet. Pappas has the best beef ribs I have ever tasted. Third and Fourth Place BBQ places are Triple J's on Homestead and Burn's on DePriest. Now I'm hungry for BBQ! Guess what's for lunch?

Inside Houston it is hard to beat Goode Company on Kirby for consistancy and variety. The duck is awesome but you will keep gravitating to the succulent brisket. The very best area barbecue is the pecan smoked heaven that is Dozier's in Fulshear. Well worth the drive.

Goode Company BBQ is the very best; from the brisket, ribs to their homemade sausage. Can't beat it. Also, the jalepeno cheese bread is a "goode" choice.

HOW COULD I FORGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is a barbecue truck parked at South Post Oak and West Orem EVERY Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If you eat there once, you will never eat anyplace else again; not even Thelma's! The truck is white and the name is JUST SMOKIN. This barbecue is off the chain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When one feasts on barbeque, Scott Leopold's in West Columbia should be tasted. Wow! Sausage, brisket, steaks, chicken, turkey....delicious!!!! Texas hospitality at its best! Can't beat the meat, sides, site and service. Enjoy!

My vote is for Thelma's Barbeque on Scott street in HoustonTexas. Her ribs are awesome they just fall off the bone and her tea is the bomb so sweet and tasty you have to go back for more. I also like Burns Barbeque his sauce is great and last but least I have to vote for my hometown place which is Scott's Barbeque in West Columbia, Texas his beef is so good.

Joe's barbeque in Alvin is the best. I have had some of the others that are listed and I really like Joe's the best.

Best BBQ in the Houston area is Red River BBQ on FM 518 in League City just west of Clear Creek High. THE BEST Sauce around!!! We actually buy bottles of it and give it as Christmas presents!

Vicente i am JEALOUS! You should invite a KHOU viewer along during the 'taste/testing' phase of your weekly surveys. Would be a perfect way to get more viewers / readers over to channel 11 I VOLUNTEER! (BBQ at Thelmas!!!!!)

Nowhere else but Alvin, Texas for the BEST BBQ, Joes BBQ on Hwy 6, you will wonder why you waited so long to try it. Everything is great on their menu and they have wonderful cobblers to eat for dessert!!

rustx65 said on November 12, 2009 at 9:49 AM

Wow, either some Big 6 employees bombarded KHOU or that place has some great BBQ. I'll definitely try it out since it has gotten such praise here. In the meantime though, my #1 vote is for JOE'S BBQ IN ALVIN - Fantastic BBQ and their cobbler, oh my goodness their cobbler... it is sinful, it is soooo good! You can never go wrong with JOE'S!

chunydogg said on November 12, 2009 at 10:56 AM

gaya121 said on November 12, 2009 at 11:50 AM

If it has to be an establishement located in Houston, I'd say Hickory Hallow. However, if it can be anywhere in the general area then it's Central Texas B-B-Q in Pearland!!!! They have the best brisket and their sauce is awesome!!!!

bbq4us said on November 12, 2009 at 12:40 PM

Lyndon's Pit BBQ on Hollister off of 290 has them all beat. Don't use the sauce until you have tried the meat.

tricia0914 said on November 12, 2009 at 1:02 PM

John Henrys is the best! They are not a restaurant, but he teaches you how to cook BBQ and then you get to eat it at his class. WONDERFUL.... He has been featured on the Food Network as well as cooked for George Bush Sr. Located at I45 & Little York! When you walk in it feels like home!

(don't be put off because it appears to be a gas station) . It is located in Wallisville and well worth the trip! They will cater gatherings in Houston!!!!
