SUGAR LAND, Texas – A wrecker driver faces charges after police said he fled the scene of a two-vehicle accident on the Southwest Freeway that left one man dead and another hospitalized.
According to the Sugar Land Police Department, the accident happened around 5:30 a.m. heading south near the University Boulevard exit.
Investigators said the tow truck hit a Chevrolet Cavalier from behind with the two men inside. The car caught fire and the driver got caught inside and died.
The passenger in was able to get out and was transported to Memorial Herman Hospital in Sugar Land serious condition, police said.
The wreck driver fled after the accident, but the tow truck company made him come back to the scene. He is being charged with failure to stop and render aid.
Police said it is still an ongoing investigation. The scene was cleared around 11:30 a.m.
