HOUSTON – A woman is dead and a man in jail after a late-night hit and run in southeast Houston.

The incident happened around 10:15 p.m. Friday near the intersection of MLK and Browncroft.

According to police, the driver of an older model pickup truck was traveling south on MLK when he struck a female trying to cross the street. He kept driving after hitting the victim, never braking or stopping.

Three HPD units in a nearby gas station parking lot saw the accident and chased the suspect, eventually getting him to stop about after about 10 blocks.

The female victim was taken to Ben Taub, where she later died.

The suspect was arrested and failed a sobriety test at the scene.
