PEARLAND, Texas – A man and his ex-wife were found shot Wednesday afternoon in Pearland after the woman called 911, according to the Pearland Police Department.
The couple was found inside a home located in the 2400 block of Woodbury.
The man was pronounced dead on the scene and the woman was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition via Life Flight.
Deputies have not released very much information, but said it could possibly be a murder-suicide attempt because there was no evidence that anyone else was involved in the shooting.
According to neighbors, the woman who lives at the house with her 8-year-old son had been divorced for at least two years, but the ex-husband remained close to her and his son. The man is a former Marine and his vehicle was still at the house.
There were yard maintenance crews at the house as late as 1:30 p.m. They said that everything seemed normal and that both the ex-husband and wife were at the house at that time.
The child was not home at the time of the shooting, investigators said.
“He’d sleep down in that garage at night -- after you’re divorced," ” said Patricia Sims. "Something was wrong, but I never thought this would happen.”
Neighbors said she had a good job as a project manager but that he was struggling. Friends said he had a small business, but lost it and was recently working at various car dealerships. He reportedly wanted to move back in permanently and she did not.
“She told me she said she wanted another baby but she would never have another baby with him,” Sims said.
Brazoria County Sheriff’s Investigator Jarrad Norris spoke to the woman in the hospital. Norris said she was alert and in much better shape than detectives had expected.
