HOUSTON -- Some Houston Police homicide investigators are now under investigation themselves, the I-Team has confirmed.
The HPD Internal Affairs Division is conducting an ongoing investigation in regards to investigative procedures in the Homicide Division, said Houston Police Chief Charles McClelland in a statement.
An attorney with the Houston Police Officers Union also confirms the probe is ongoing. Multiple sources told the I-Team the allegations are alarming that some homicide detectives didn t work up cases properly, or didn t work them up at all.
Sources said at least dozens of homicide cases are under review and that some of those cases date back several years. So far, at least two homicide detectives have been reassigned.
An attorney with the Houston Police Officers Union confirms it's representing one of those officers, and declined to comment. The internal probe is expected to last weeks, if not months and according to Chief McClelland:
Until this investigation is completed, there will be no further details or information released.
Sources said there's a lot of unrest among the ranks at HPD because some officers feel this investigation is overreaching. They called it a dragnet putting many under scrutiny for the alleged bad actions of a few.
