PASADENA, Texas The husband of a mother of seven found murdered on Sunday has hired an attorney as police track down new leads.
That lawyer, Sam Adamo of Houston, said police were investigating a Crime Stoppers tip that a black Ford Expedition had followed the victim as she left a strip club after parting ways with her husband early Sunday morning.
A passerby found Edlyn Villegas Munoz, 36, under a bridge in Pasadena. Police said her nude body had been beaten.
On Monday, her husband, Camilo Zermeno, tearfully begged his wife s killer to come forward.
But on Tuesday, as police detectives continued their investigation, Zermeno hired Adamo.
Zermeno has not been charged with anything, and police won t comment on whether he s a person of interest.
Adamo said his client was very emotional and had wanted some advice during a very difficult time. He added that it was not unusual for spouses of murder victims to hire a lawyer while answering questions from police.
Zermeno has said that he and his wife had been partying overnight on New Years at the Show Palace on Spencer Highway, where he worked a maintenance man. Around 2 or 3 a.m., he said he decided to walk home and leave his wife behind, following an argument.
He said he later learned from friends who stayed at the club that his wife had followed him on foot a short time later.
Her body turned up around noon Sunday at Vince Bayou near the intersection of South Shaver and Queens.
Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the Pasadena Police Department at 713-477-1221 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
