HOUSTON -- A local teenager is suing her parents for the right to keep her unborn child.
The girl is nine weeks pregnant and says her parents want to force her to have an abortion.
According to court documents, the 16-year-old claims her parents told her she had to terminate the pregnancy, and that when she refused, they took away her car and cell phone and said the abortion had to happen soon.
“There were threats of slipping her an abortion pill, there were threats of physical violence, 'I'm going to make you do this, and I'm not going to take no for an answer,’” said attorney Stephen Casey.
On Tuesday, a judge granted the girl a temporary restraining order.
Another hearing has been set for Friday.
The teen is being represented by the Texas Center for Defense of Life, a non-profit legal group.
