HOUSTON – Clinics across Houston are going to distribute the first line of defense against the swine flu Wednesday.
Health officials say ten City of Houston clinics will offer their patients both nasal mist and H1N1 injectable vaccines.
“Two thirds of what we have is the nasal spray, which is good,” said Kathy Barton, a spokesperson for the Houston Health Department. “Perfect vaccine for anyone 2 to 49 that is otherwise healthy.  We have a little bit of injectable vaccine that we really must reserve for high risk patients.”
High risk patients include pregnant women and patients with underlying conditions, she said.
The city government received 23,000 doses on Friday, but some key things were missing.
“They didn’t send peripherals, the documentation, the paperwork, the needles and the other stuff we would need,” said Barton.
Only a few of other local clinics had the H1N1 vaccine like Ortega Medical clinic, but that should be changing soon.
Officials say many of the private clinics and practices that did not receive the vaccine yet expect to get it in the next two weeks.
“We were definitely looking for it, but of course availability was an issue,” said Barton.

In all your News you indicate that people over 50 should not get the Swine Flu shor and nowhere do you say when or where people over 50 can look forward to getting the shot. A recent news report (not yours) indicated that if people over 50 get the swine flu, they are more likely to die than younger people. What's the scoop? Do we (people over 50) just hope we don't get the flu and if we do are we just suppose to go ahead and die? When is the flu shot going to be available for us if we don't want to die?
