HOUSTON – Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee announced Friday that she has been battling breast-cancer and is now cancer free.
“Today, I announce that I am a survivor of a disease that has affected millions of women around the world- breast cancer. I was diagnosed last year,” she said in a statement released. “Like so many women, I experienced surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and other effects including loss of hair. Now, I am cancer free. I recently finished my last course of treatment. What a great feeling!”
Jackson Lee said she received care at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
She urged women to learn about the disease, take preventative measures, and work to detect it early to increase odds of survival.
