KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine—President George H. W. Bush shaved his head this week to show support for a young leukemia patient.

Two-year-old Patrick, who lost his own hair because of the treatments, is the son of a member of Bush’s security detail.

President Bush, 89, noticed this week that members of his security detail were suddenly bald. When he found out why, he volunteered to join them.

The security detail members have launched a website called Patrickspals.org to help the family with medical bills.

They also organized the Inaugural Patrick’s Pals Motorcycle Benefit Run on August 10 in Kennebunkport.

The Bushes lost their second child, Robin, to leukemia 60 years ago this October at the age of three.
