GEORGETOWN -- Dressed in full racing gear, including a mask and helmet, third-grader Leonel Sanchez buckled up and took off at high speeds Sunday afternoon at the Driveway Austin Race Track.
In 2012 Leonel was diagnosed with a rare form of muscular dystrophy.
"He's going to end up in a wheelchair and I wanted him to do something like this, like we're doing right now for him, and I'm very grateful," said Mayra Bolanos, Leonel's mother.
On Sunday the President of Driveway Austin and professional race driver, Bill Dollahite, gave him the full high-speed experience in a Ferrari race car. After the ride he received his very own trophy and a big smile to match.
Leonel's disease will progress, and it is unlikely that he will see his teenage years.
