GPD: Woman abducted by man she met near Galveston bar

GALVESTON – A woman visiting Galveston over the weekend said she was kidnapped by a man she met at the popular Poop Deck bar.

The victim told police the suspect agreed to give her ride to her hotel Sunday night after they left the bar. She said she began to fear for her safety after he allegedly made sexual advances toward her and refused to let her out of the car.

"She continued to ask him to stop the car, let her out of the vehicle, said Sgt. Joshua Schirard with the Galveston Police Department. " He refused to do so and he continued to head out west."

As he drove more than 20 miles away from the hotel toward the West End, the woman managed to jump out of the car and run to a house on Intrepid Lane.

"She found an opportunity to actually jump out of the vehicle when he came to a stop at a stop sign," said Sgt. Schirard.

The resident called 911 around 5:30 p.m. and officers immediately swarmed the area.

They stopped a vehicle matching the suspect's description near FM 3005 and 12 Mile Road.

The woman identified Eric Veazie-Gilmore, 32, as the man who kidnapped her.

Police say they found several rocks of crack cocaine in Veazie-Gilmore's vehicle, but that's not all.

"They found a hand towel with blood on it. They found some blood on an arm rest and they found some pieces of rope in the trunk," Sgt. Schirard said. "That all may seem innocuous on its own but put together it is definitely suspicious."

Veazie-Gilmore's story about his recent whereabouts was inconsistent with the evidence, police said.

He was arrested and charged with kidnapping and possession of a controlled substance. He is jailed on a $45,000 bond.

Back at the Poop Deck, bartender Renea Holman had advice for all women: don't accept rides from strangers.

"There are just so many things that happen, especially these days," Holman said. "Texas City, remember all that killing? Uh Uh. No way."
