Fearing death, wildfire victim leaves note to comfort relatives

Stuck inside the lobby at a Gatlinburg hotel, Christa Fordan thought she was going to die. The hotel was surrounded by fire as people gathered in the lobby with no way to escape.

Christa wrote the names and ages of her son and nephew on a piece of paper, thinking the three of them would pass out and eventually die from smoke inhalation.

"I was so thankful that we would pass out so that they didn't have to...experience anything more devastating than what they had already experienced," she said.

Christa also wrote "We love you...we are cuddling, calm and at peace."

Thankfully Christa and the boys are fine.

The Gatlinburg wildfires have killed seven people and destroyed dozens of homes and businesses.
