Police have charged 25-year-old Christian Dillard of the 1700 block of Dennis Court with attempted first degree murder, assault and related charges.

Around 10:00 p.m., officers were called to the home for a report of a stabbing.

The two small children, under the age of five, were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

They remain hospitalized and are in stable condition.

Police say no other family members who were home at the time were hurt.

The suspect was on the scene when the officers arrived and was taken for an emergency evaluation.

He has since been released and is now in custody of the Department of Corrections.

Dillard has also been charged with sexually assaulting a woman who lives in the family's home earlier on Saturday.

Dillard and the victim had a prior romantic relationship. Following the sexual assault, Dillard fled before officers arrived.
An investigation reveals the suspect returned home earlier in the evening.

The children were in the care of family members who were also home at the time.
