Beach Boys bringing good vibrations to Moody Gardens on Saturday

GALVESTON, Texas – In the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, Galveston Island is in need of some relief – both in the way of donations and in relaxation. And on November 1, The Beach Boys are just the band to help do it.

Mike Love from The Beach Boys will be performing at Moody Gardens.
“The local residents really need a release. After spending a month of working full time and then going home to clean up storm debris around their homes, they deserve to have a little fun,” said Gavin O’Neil, Moody Garden’s Hotel General Manager.
But The Beach Boys aren’t just coming to do a little song and dance. Their concert will be part of night-long benefit focused on Galveston’s recovery. A portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to the United Way of Galveston to benefit the Galveston Chapter of the American Red Cross and Gleanings From the Harvest - Galveston Food Bank.
Concert goers also are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items that can be dropped off at a series of collection receptacles located at the front entrance of the concert grounds. The American Red Cross will also be on hand to accept donations from those wishing to make a contribution.
O’Neil said The Beach Boys were originally booked for the Lone Star Rally that was postponed until December. But instead of canceling, the band that is famous for fun in the sun, decided to bring some fun to the island in its time of need.
“We’re very excited to bring The Beach Boys to Galveston and to help our friends and neighbors in the on-going rebuilding effort. In the wake of Hurricane Ike, the music of the Beach Boys will be just the tonic we all need,” said O’Neil.
Opening for The Beach Boys is a local favorite, The Coastliners. Plus, Freeport’s Intercoastal Pirates will be there to kick off the evening’s festivities.
“We weren’t sure if we were going to have good attendance, so we stepped out on blind faith,” said O’Neil. “But it seems people are ready for a break as we only have a few of the $45 seats left.”
Lawn seats, which are only $20, are still available.
Gates to the event will open at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, with The Beach Boys taking the stage at 9 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.concertsonthegulf.com, by phone at 800-298-4200, and via the Concerts on the Gulf Box Office located in the lobby of the Moody Gardens Hotel. The box office will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 6:00pm.
