Houston readies for downtown celebration

03:13 PM CDT on Friday, July 4, 2008

KHOU.com staff report

HOUSTON -- One of the biggest fireworks shows in the country will kick off tonight near downtown.

On Friday, crews were finishing up the last minute preparations for the Freedom Over Texas Festival.

It kicks off at 4 p.m. at Eleanor Tinsley Park near downtown Houston.

This year’s entertainment lineup features Miranda Lambert, The Shirelles, Jo Dee Messina and Sara Evans.

The fireworks start just after 9:30 p.m.

Admission for adults is $8 and kids under 10-years-old get in free.

Anyone attending is urged to remember that you can’t bring coolers. You’re also not allowed to bring your own food and drinks, weapons, fireworks or laser pointers.

If you bring an umbrella it must be smaller than four feet across.

If you’re driving to the event you can park in the Theater District.

You’ll find parking lots under Tranquility Park along Rusk and between Bagby and Smith.

From there all you’ll have to do is follow the crowd to Eleanor Tinsley Park.
