WACO, Texas -- Being on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” is no new turn for actress and model Shannon Elizabeth.

Her early steps on the ballroom floor happened in Waco.

Joy’s School of Dance founder Joy Burkhart says Elizabeth took classes in ballet, jazz and tap during her school years.

Burkhart describes Elizabeth, a 1991 graduate of Waco High School, as a quiet young lady who “did a good job” and had a lot of support from her family.

Lisa Saxenian was principal of Lake Air Middle School when Elizabeth was a student.

“She was a very energetic cheerleader I can see her making ‘Dancing With the Stars,”’ Saxenian told the Waco Tribune-Herald.

Elizabeth and partner Derek Hough survived Tuesday night’s round of the popular ABC television program.
