HOUSTON -– A man suspected of fatally shooting a woman in a north Houston bar was on the run early Tuesday, police said.

According to the Houston Police Department, the shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Monday at Las Palmas on Hogan Street near Fulton Street.

Witnesses told police a man inside the bar got into an altercation with a woman. He then pulled out a gun and shot her. The suspect ran to the parking lot where he got into a Ford SUV and sped away.

Surveillance video showed the suspect’s vehicle leaving the property, backing into a car along the way.

Early in their investigation, HPD Homicide detectives said they only had the man’s nickname to work off of.

“We don’t have any idea right now,” said Sgt. T. Triplett. “We have a nickname right now, and we have people working on that nickname trying to get us more information.”

Sources at the scene said the woman, who was in her 20s or 30s, worked at the bar and may even be related to the club’s owner.

“Well, I’m sorry for the family because, you know, it was a young lady,” said Maria Loredo, who works next to the bar. “… you don’t see these kind of things all the time. It’s kind of hard watching someone die.”

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
