HOUSTON –- Houston police said a driver led officers on a low-speed chase from the Katy Freeway to the Gulf Freeway overnight Monday.

According to police, it was around midnight when an officer spotted a man driving a sedan with a flat tire on the Katy Freeway. The driver allegedly refused to stop and got onto the Gulf Freeway near downtown as more officers joined in on the pursuit.

KHOU 11 News cameras caught up with the chase as sparks flew from one of the vehicle’s wheels after the tire came off.

Just past the exit for Scott, the driver stopped on the freeway, and he was taken into custody.

A wrecker driver used a fire extinguisher to put out a small fire that started in a wheel well.

Police said the suspect was given a field sobriety test and then arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
