HOUSTON –- The University of Houston Police Department says a female student was knocked down and robbed in a campus parking lot late Wednesday.
It happened just before 9 p.m. in Lot 19 near the school’s Law Center and College of Technology.
Police said a girl was walking to her vehicle when a man approached and told her that she dropped something. The girl was briefly distracted, and the man allegedly punched her, knocking her to the ground. The man then stole her purse.
No weapon was used, and the victim was not seriously hurt.
Police sent out text messages and e-mails to students to alert them to the crime.
In the summer of 2012, campus police beefed up security following a spree of on-campus robberies.
“Another student got robbed, it’s crazy that it just keeps happening,” one student told KHOU 11 early Thursday. “It seems that it’s getting better because it’s not happening as often as it used to, but it’s still raises a bit of concern that it’s still happening.”
The suspect in Wednesday’s crime got away. He was described as a black man in his 20s. He was wearing khakis and a black shirt with white and blue lettering, police said.
