KATY, Texas -- Fundraising over the internet is pretty common these days. People need money for a variety of things. But Debbie and Henry Meyer are trying to raise money to help pay the cost of adopting a baby boy.
“We knew the money part was something we weren’t sure we could come up with,” said Debbie Meyer.
“So we figured if we do it over the internet, we could reach more people,” added Henry Meyer.
The “Go Fund Me” site was created by the wife of their church pastor. So far, it’s taken in about 10 thousand dollars, which is 29 thousand short of their goal.
“I think this is becoming a normal way of raising money,” said Jan Deets, the Executive Director of AIM Adoptions in Spring.
“People are having garage sales, car washes and anything that will help them meet their goal.”
The Meyers have tried unsuccessfully to have children of their own. The baby they hope to adopt will be delivered by cesarean section later this week. Then they’ll have five days to come up with the rest of the cash or they could lose the little boy who they’ve already named Gentry.
“I already love him,” said Debbie Meyer. “I pray for him. I’ve been praying for him every day for God to protect him in his pregnancy.”
