HOUSTON -– A man accused of setting his wife on fire during a domestic assault in January now faces a murder charge after his wife died this week, police said.

The incident occurred on Jan. 23 in the 4700 block of Robertson Street in north Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

Witnesses told police they saw a woman, later identified as 53-year-old Susan P. Harper, on fire and running near vehicles in a parking lot. The witnesses helped put the fire out and then called 911.

The victim’s husband, 47-year-old Darryl Wayne Tindol, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault in July.

Police said Harper died on Monday, Oct. 14, and charges against Tindol were upgraded to murder.

Medical personnel at Memorial Hermann Hospital said the victim died from the injuries she suffered nine months earlier.
