HOUSTON –- Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department chased down a pickup driver who they said struck their ambulance on the westside early Tuesday.

The incident happened around 2:15 a.m. on Fountain View, according to HFD.

Officials said a man in a pickup truck sideswiped the ambulance, hitting its mirror. HFD followed the suspect to Westheimer, where another HFD vehicle arrived and blocked him in.

They said the man got out and began to threaten the paramedics, but they managed to calm him down.

A state trooper was passing by and was able to handcuff the man, who later failed a field sobriety test. He was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, HFD said.

Damage to both the ambulance and the suspect’s truck was limited.
