BAYTOWN, Texas – A driver who was speeding in and out of traffic on Highway 146 in Baytown Wednesday lost control and veered into oncoming traffic, according to police.
The Pontiac Vibe crashed into a black Lincoln and pushed it into the path of a FedEx truck.
The 26-year-old driver of the Pontiac was pronounced dead at the scene. He is from Dayton, but his name hasn’t been released.
People from a nearby animal hospital heard the crash and rushed outside to help the men in the Lincoln.
"They were worried about each other, they were three businessmen that were traveling together in a car, and they were worried about how each other was doing," said Dr. Bruce Meuth. "The three that we helped were all conscious, in a lot of pain. We were trying to keep them still."
The three victims suffered multiple injuries, including broken bones but they are expected to survive.
They were taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.
The driver of the FedEx truck was transported to San Jacinto Hospital in Baytown by ambulance for a leg injury.
The northbound lanes of 146 were shut down while police investigated the accident.
