Wife arrested in husband's 2012 murder

HOUSTON -- KHOU 11 News has an update to a bizarre murder mystery in the Cy-Fair neighborhood of Laurel Creek.

In December 2012, Jaime Melgar was discovered tied up and stabbed to death inside a closet of his home on Kelsey Meadows Court.

His wife Sandra Melgar was found bound and alive in another closet.

"Mrs. Melgar says that they were in the bathroom together," said Sgt. Robert Spurgeon with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "At some time, she blacked out and next thing she remembers is waking up in the closet tied up."

Nineteen months after the crime, Sandra Melgar has been indicted on a murder charge.

Investigators are not yet saying how the now 54-year-old managed to kill her husband and then tie herself up. They have also not released a motive.

The crime happened on what would have been the couple's 32nd wedding anniversary.

Melgar was arrested on Tuesday and is out on a $50,000 bond. Her attorney told us by phone that they have no comment.

Neighbors were torn on their feelings.

"Sadness and relief at the same time," said Becky who lives a few doors down.
