Suspect who shot at HPD during chase identified, charged

HOUSTON - Police released the identity of a man charged after he allegedly fired gunshots at officers during a pursuit early Thursday.

Ismael Gonzalez, 32, is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant and felony evading arrest.

According to the Houston Police Department, it was about 1 a.m. when officers saw a white Chevrolet pickup with expired registration. Police tried to stop Gonzalez, but he kept going.

The suspect allegedly sped up and slowed down, failing to stay in a single lane. At one point he pointed a gun at police and opened fire, striking a police SUV.

There were no injuries.

According to HPD, Gonzalez continued to flee and eventually came to a dead end in the 4000 block of Redbud. He then tried to get away on foot but was located by a K-9 unit.
