Suspect in Montrose car break-ins on the run after getting caught red-handed

HOUSTON -- A man accused in several car break-ins in the Montrose area is on the run after being caught in the act, police said.

It all started around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when a woman saw a tall man breaking into her Lexus near Taft at Fairview. She yelled at the man, and he jumped into his white Chevrolet Impala and sped away.

The victim got her boyfriend, and the pair managed to find the suspect just a few blocks away about to break into more vehicles. They notified a nearby Precinct 1 Deputy Constable, who scared away the suspect. The burglar left behind his Impala and jumped a fence to get away.

Houston police searched for the suspect, but he was never located.

It's believed he broke into at least three vehicles, taking a wallet.
