Reward increased for answers in cold case murder of security guard

The reward for information has been increased to $15,000.

HOUSTON - Crime Stoppers has increased the reward for information in a cold case murder of a security guard.

Up to $15,000 is being offered for information in the April 2014 death of Rene Almeida. Police say Almeida was working at the front gate of the Leawood Condos when a man tried to trespass.

When Almeida wouldn't let the man in, detectives say the suspect shot him several times and left him to die.

Almeida's family is asking for closure.

"I know that there was people out there that saw what happened. I know that there was so many people out there and I know they saw him. Just come forward and say something. It's been two years and he didn't deserve this," said Jeannette Almeida, Rene's daughter.

Detectives say the suspect was tall, slender and wore all black, including a matte black motorcycle helmet. He was riding a black sport motorcycle.

If you have any information, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
