NEW CANEY, Texas—Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies intercepted a trailer packed full of pot Wednesday with the help of a drug dog, investigators said.

Deputies said the dog, Bianca, tracked the scent of pot to the trailer of an 18-wheeler at the Flying J Truck Stop on Highway 59 at State Highway 242.

Deputies said they ran the truck’s plates and discovered the registration sticker and the insurance were expired.

At that point, deputies said the driver gave them access to the trailer to conduct a search.

"During the search the deputy constable crawled on top of the load and located all of these bundles of marijuana in the front of the 18-wheeler of produce," said Deputy Buddy Kellum.

The deputies said they spotted tightly wrapped packages inside the trailer after they crawled over boxes of lemons and watermelons.  They called the DEA for backup.

Deputies and DEA agents used a forklift to pull the produce out of the trailer and get to the drugs.

Authorities said they recovered about 3,000 pounds of marijuana.  The name of the driver has not been released.

Investigators said the 18-wheeler is from Mission, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley.
