Pct. 4 police dog bites officer while looking for smoke shop burglar

HOUSTON -- Houston police responded to a burglary alarm at a smoke shop east of Humble overnight, resulting in a search for the suspect.

During the search, a Harris County Pct. 4 police dog bit an Houston Police Department officer on his elbow. The officer was taken to the Kingwood Medical Center for treatment.

It all started around 3 a.m. Friday when the alarm was triggered at Puff's Smoke Shop on FM 1960 near Moonshine Hill. Houston police spotted a man fleeing the scene, but he ran into a wooded area behind the store.

Pct. 4 Deputy Constables joined in on the search, and an HPD K-9 unit eventually found the suspect hiding. The suspect was treated for scratches and then taken into custody.

It wasn't clear what the suspect took from the shop, but officers reportedly found the loot stashed in some bushes nearby.

An ambulance that responded to the scene was involved in a minor crash as it left the parking lot. No injuries were reported in the incident.
