MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TEXAS - A Montgomery County man was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday after he was found guilty of driving while intoxicated for a 12th time.
Officials say on Feb. 6, 2015, Joe Ford Woods Jr, 63, crashed his truck into a vehicle stopped at a stop sign at the Texas 494 Loop and Keith Drive before fleeing the scene. Authorities say the crash victims later founds Woods slumped over the steering wheel in the driveway of his home on Keith Drive.
Officials arrived on scene and found Woods had a BAC of .269, which is more than three times the legal limit.
Woods’ criminal history was presented at trial, which included 11 previous DWI convictions, an aggravated robbery conviction and a conviction for assault family violence. Woods received a 20-year prison sentence for his most recent conviction – a DWI in 2007 – but because he had at least two prior trips to prison, his punishment range was enhanced to 25 years to life in prison.
