Masked suspects break into home, shoot dog

HOUSTON - A group of suspects with masks on busted in the back door of a home, held the residents at gunpoint and shot the owner's bulldog in the face.

Police responded to the 4500 block of Averill shortly after midnight Saturday and found a 47-year-old man shot in the abdomen. He was transported to Memorial Hermann in serious but stable condition.

According to HPD, four or five Hispanic male suspects with masks on, busted in the back door of the home and held six men at gun point, forcing them to the floor and making demands.

One of the suspects shot the home owner's bulldog in the face. The dog is expected to survive.

Another suspect shot the victim after an argument. The victim jumped out a back window. The suspects fled on foot and got away.

After HPD investigated, they found a small marijuana grow operation in the attic and a large amount of marijuana. Undercover narcotics agents responded and recovered the marijuana.

HPD robbery detectives believe this home invasion was narcotics related, the home owners were initially not cooperating. All five men were released but narcotics charges will be pending against some of them.
