La Porte PD: Teen recorded a singing selfie in stolen vehicle

La Porte PD released this video legally taken from a car theft suspect's phone. LPPD says investigators are cracking down on a string of car thefts in the area.

LA PORTE, Texas – A teen suspect took a selfie and sang to himself in a video recorded in a stolen car, police in La Porte said.

According to the La Porte Police Department, it was before sunrise Monday when officers spotted three pickups traveling on West Plantation without any lights on. The third truck stopped for police but the first two kept going as officers tried to pull them over.

Both of the fleeing suspects got away, but police later found one of the stolen pickups abandoned.

An investigation led authorities to arrest Kenneth Davis, 17, of Houston. Police said an authorized search of the suspect's phone revealed his alleged involvement in other area car thefts.

In one video clip, police said Davis could be seen singing to himself and taking selfies while inside a stolen vehicle. The video also showed other individuals who could be responsible for area car thefts, police said.

LPPD investigators are now working with surrounding agencies to solve those crimes as well.

Davis is charged with one count of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and was also charged with Burglary of a Motor Vehicle.
