La Porte PD: Man accused of robbing bank, fleeing in stolen ambulance

LA PORTE, Texas - A man is in custody after police say he robbed a bank and fled in a stolen ambulance.

According to La Porte PD, on Thursday morning Kristopher Montalvo, 29, allegedly showed an Amegy Bank teller a threatening note and demanded money. Police say the teller did as she was told and Montalvo fled the bank in the 1400 block of W. Fairmont.

Police say the awaiting getaway vehicle was a stolen ambulance from a 'neighboring community'. He was spotted by officers who were responding to the bank's alarm. Police say Montalvo attempted to flee but officers were able to detain him after a chase that ended in Pasadena.

Montalvo has been charged with robbery. La Porte PD says he is being investigated by several other jurisdictions due to his 'suspected involvement in several other serious crimes'.
