KHOU 11's Russ Lewis reports

HOUSTON – Houston police used the PIT maneuver for what may be the first time on a suspected drunk driver.

The maneuver was recently approved for use within the Houston Police Department.

Tuesday morning’s chase started in Jacinto City and lasted about 45 minutes. The suspect led police, allegedly at high speeds, on I-10 to I-45 and then the Hardy Tollway and Beltway 8.

Officers spiked the suspect’s tires and then used the PIT maneuver on Greens, just west of Northborough. The suspect was then taken into custody without incident.

During his arrest, the suspect could be heard yelling obscenities at officers.
