HPD: Robbery suspect arrested after chase ends in 2-vehicle crash

HOUSTON – A robbery suspect was arrested after a police chase ended with the suspect vehicle slamming into a van along the Katy Freeway overnight.

According to the Houston Police Department, it started around midnight late Wednesday at a Whataburger located on Long Point.

Police received a call at that time of a robbery at the restaurant after employees were held up at gunpoint. The suspect, in a small car, also robbed the Jack in the Box on Hempstead Highway about 30 minutes before that.

HPD said that as they were putting out a description of the suspect and his vehicle, a Spring Valley Police officer was attempting to pull over a car for running a red light.

The officer heard the description on the police radio and realized this was the suspect from the robberies, HPD said. The Spring Valley officer gave chase after the suspect refused to pull over.

The pursuit continued heading west on the Katy Freeway all the way to Highway 6, where the suspect got on the feeder road running red lights. HPD said the suspect eventually ran into the back end of a slower moving white van.

HPD said officers were able to quickly take the suspect into custody after the accident. They also found the gun he used on his front seat.

Police said the suspect was arrested and faces aggravated robbery and felony evading charges.

The driver of the van was not hurt, police said.
