HPD identifies woman run over multiple times

A woman is fighting for her life after police say she was run over by a man she knew.

HOUSTON - Witnesses tell Houston Police a man in a pickup ran over a woman multiple times at a southeast side townhome complex. The search is on for the driver.

The crime happened at the Long Drive Townhomes on Long Drive south of 610 around 11 p.m. Sunday.

Police say the man struck the woman and ran over her in his small pickup truck. He then allegedly backed over her and sped up to run over her again. In all, he ran over the woman at least four times before speeding from the scene, police say.

"He literally tried to kill her. He intentionally ran over her. Not once, not twice, not three times but four times. He literally tried to murder this woman," said Alean Driver, a witness.

The victim, San Juanita Herrera, in her late 30s, suffered cuts and head trauma and was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Outside the townhomes where she was struck, police photographed an SUV that had all four tires flatten.

Herrera’s son told KHOU 11 News that he was too distraught to talk about the attack that left his mother with broken bones all over her body. However, he said that he was confident that justice would be served.

The suspect is described only as a Hispanic male, 50 to 60 years of age. He was seen in a gray 2000 Nissan Frontier pickup truck with a camper.

A motive still remains unclear although police said they were closer to revealing answers on Monday afternoon.but the suspect remains on the run. His name has not been released.
