HPD: Man arrested in smash and grab burglary in Kingwood

KINGWOOD, Texas – A man faces multiple charges after police say he smashed a pickup truck into a pawn shop Wednesday night.

According to the Houston Police Department, it started at 9 p.m. when the suspect smashed his vehicle into the Kingwood Pawn located at North Park and Loop 494.

Police said the suspect then busted the window at a Cricket store next door after not being able to get into the pawn shop. The suspect may have also broke into the Sherwin Williams down the block.

The man went inside and took multiple items and phone equipment, police said. He then drove to his house on Evergreen Glade.

Police said a witness to the crime at the shopping center took a picture of the truck and showed investigators, which had a clear shot of the license plate.

HPD ran the plate and gave the address in Kingwood. About the same time, police said they got a call of a disturbance at the same home.

When officers arrived, the suspect took off running out the back door and over the back fence, police said. They chased him and eventually caught him.

Police said the man was arrested, but then was transported to the hospital with multiple injuries.
