Homeowner shot in face during N. Houston home invasion

HOUSTON - A gunman shot a homeowner in the face during a home invasion in north Houston early Wednesday, police say.

According to officers with the Houston Police Department, it was about 3:30 a.m. when an unknown male suspect started kicking in the front door of a home on Irby at Ferguson Way. An alarm went off, so the homeowner went to see what was going on.

Police say as the homeowner got to the door, the gunman busted in and opened fire. Two shots were fired, and one bullet struck the victim in his face, police say.

The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The gunman fled the scene.

Police say they are still investigating why the man was breaking into the home.
