Homeowner safe after taken hostage during SWAT standoff

KHOU 11's Doug Delony reports from the Watch Desk

HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS - Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office believe a dispute over money led to a standoff at a home on the northwest side overnight.

Around 9 p.m. Thursday deputies responded to a home on Wilkenberg, not far from Highway 249 and Beltway 8. A homeowner reportedly was being held inside by an armed man.

Deputies arrived and were unable to get the suspect to surrender, so after about three hours they used tear gas to force their way in.

The suspect was arrested. The victim or homeowner was said to be okay but appeared to be pistol-whipped.

The suspect faces a charge of aggravated kidnapping, at the least, deputies said.
